Beko has unveiled a major update to its HomeWhiz smart-home app, introducing artificial intelligence–powered automation, enhanced energy-consumption tracking and a suite of new features aimed at helping consumers streamline household chores and reduce utility bills.
Released this week across Europe, the revamped HomeWhiz platform leverages machine-learning algorithms to analyze users’ daily routines and appliance usage patterns. Over time, the app will automatically generate personalized schedules for key chores—including laundry, dishwashing and oven preheating—ensuring devices run at the most convenient times for each household.
“Consumers today demand appliances that don’t just perform, but also anticipate their needs,” said Salih Özdemir, Beko’s Head of Digital Innovation. “By embedding AI into HomeWhiz, we’re moving from remote control to intelligent orchestration, so homeowners can spend less time managing schedules and more time enjoying life.”
Key features in the update include:
• Smart Scheduling: HomeWhiz suggests optimal operating windows based on electricity-tariff data and individual user habits. For example, if off-peak rates start at 10 p.m., the app will propose delaying a wash cycle until that time.
• Predictive Maintenance Alerts: AI algorithms monitor appliance performance and predict potential faults. Users receive proactive notifications—such as a warning that the refrigerator’s condenser coils need cleaning or that dishwasher filters require descaling—reducing unplanned service calls.
• Energy-Use Dashboard: A redesigned interface breaks down consumption by appliance and cycle. Users can track daily, weekly or monthly usage and see estimated CO2 emissions. The app also offers tailored tips—like suggesting an ECO wash program—to lower power draw.
• Recipe-Driven Cooking: Integrating Beko’s connected ovens with HomeWhiz now delivers step-by-step recipe guides. The app auto-configures oven settings—temperature, mode and duration—based on the selected dish, and sends progress alerts to smartphones.
In addition to these AI enhancements, Beko has expanded HomeWhiz’s compatibility with third-party smart-home ecosystems, including Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings. Voice commands can now initiate laundry programs or preheat ovens, while routines can be linked to other smart devices (for instance, dimming lights when the oven reaches the desired temperature).
Energy-management experts have welcomed the update in light of rising utility costs and growing consumer interest in sustainability. “Detailed, appliance-level analytics are essential if homeowners want to cut energy waste without sacrificing convenience,” said Dr. Laura Henley, a researcher at the International Energy Agency. “Tools like HomeWhiz empower users to make data-driven decisions and see real impact on their energy bills.”
The HomeWhiz update will roll out automatically to existing users over the next two weeks via app stores. New buyers of Beko’s connected appliance range will receive the latest version preinstalled. The app remains free to download, with no subscription fees for core features.
Beko hopes that the AI-driven improvements will strengthen its position in the competitive smart-appliance market. “Innovation is at the heart of our brand,” added Özdemir. “By combining advanced AI with user-friendly design, HomeWhiz is redefining what a connected home can achieve—both for families and for the planet.”
